Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon California Red Wine, 750 ml - 750 Milliliter, $96.49
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is deeply rooted in Napa Valley's wine legends, including those of native people who lived off the bountiful land and the legend of a magnificent stag who evaded hunters while leaping across the iconic palisades. These legends inspired founder Warren Winiarski to purchase 40 acres of land that he planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1970, establishing Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. The winery would add to Napa Valley's legends with its 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1976, French wine experts ranked two California wines higher than the best wines of France during a blind tasting in Paris. At the historic event now referred to as the "The Judgment of Paris," the 1973 S.L.V. took top honors among the Cabernet Sauvignons, triumphing over two First-Growth and other renowned Bordeaux wines. The Judgment of Paris brought international recognition to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and the Napa Valley. Today, the Stag's Leap Wine Cellars portfolio of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons is recognized for S.L.V. and its two other estate Cabernet Sauvignons - FAY and CASK 23. Warren sold the winery in 2007 to a joint venture between his close friend Marchese Piero Antinori, the 25th generation leader of the famed Italian winery, and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. In 2023, Antinori acquired full ownership of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, keeping the promise Marchese Piero Antinori made to Warren in 2007 to return the winery to family ownership. ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon offers inviting aromas of boysenberry, plum, currant, chocolate and baking spice. The rich and creamy entrance leads to a fresh and flavorful mid-palate. The wine is full-bodied with rich fruit flavors and integrated tannins that are persistent and plush.
